This is an afternoon/evening workshop in and around the Simonside hills south of the town of Rothbury in the Northumberland National Park. Late July is heather time. The workshop is timed to take advantage of the raking evening light.
We’ll start the afternoon at Lordenshaws, site of enigmatic cup-and-ring carved rocks. From there we’ll explore Simonside forest and visit Tosson Tower. We’ll then return to Lordenshaws to walk up the heather-clad slopes of Simonside towards Dove Crags as the days winds its way towards evening.
Useful information
This workshop is suitable for photographers of all levels of experience and ability, from absolute beginners to those with more experience. The group size is limited to six to allow Jason and David to devote ample time throughout the day to every participant.
Bring with you the camera equipment (camera, lenses and filters) you already own and would normally take out for the day. A tripod will be useful, but don’t worry if you don’t have one: it's not essential and we may be able to lend you one for the workshop.
Although this is a summer workshop good, warm weather cannot be guaranteed in the Cheviots particularly later in the day. Wear layers to keep you warm, as bring waterproofs with you just in case. You will also need sturdy and comfortable waterproof walking boots. This workshop will involve walking up and down steep slopes to reach certain subjects. A good level of fitness and mobility is highly recommended.
